Escape to Nature is an award-winning documentary brand and production platform dedicated to cinematic stories from the natural world, remote islands, oceans, wildlife and cultures connected to fragile environments.

The project was founded in 2008 by Czech filmmakers, photographers, divers and nature storytellers Libor Spacek and Petra Dolezalova. What began as a shared creative journey gradually evolved into an internationally recognized documentary brand focused on nature, underwater worlds, sustainable travel, cultural encounters and the emotional connection between people and the planet.

For more than two decades, the Escape to Nature team has created documentary films, photography, articles and visual stories from some of the world’s most beautiful and vulnerable places. The work combines cinematic images, underwater cinematography, aerial filming, authentic field experience and a strong respect for the natural world.

Our mission is simple: to bring audiences closer to places, ecosystems and cultures they may never experience in person — and to inspire a deeper understanding of why they need to be protected.

From nature films to global audiences

Escape to Nature documentaries have received more than 100 awards and recognitions at international film festivals in Europe, the United States and other parts of the world.

Films produced under the Escape to Nature brand have been regularly broadcast on Czech Television / CT2. Czech Television also co-produced the last six episodes completed before 2018. The documentaries have also been distributed internationally, including on Disney+ in Europe, TUBI TV in North America, Apple TV, in the MENA region, CCTV China, RAI Italy and other territories around the world.

Escape to Nature films are regularly presented through public screenings, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, travel presentations and educational activities. From the original filmed material, the team also creates short films, trailers, photographs, promotional content, large-format prints, calendars, articles and other visual materials.

Escape to Nature B.V.

In February 2020, Libor Spacek established Escape to Nature B.V. in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as a film production company for documentary, television, audiovisual and international production activities.

The company was created to strengthen the international direction of the Escape to Nature brand, build closer cooperation with global partners and develop more ambitious documentary projects for broadcasters, streamers, conservation partners, educational institutions and international audiences.

A cinematic voice for the ocean

During many years of filming, diving and travelling through remote regions, the Escape to Nature team has witnessed both the beauty of the natural world and the growing pressure placed on fragile ecosystems.

Coral reefs, marine biodiversity, ocean pollution, climate change, disappearing habitats and the lives of island communities connected to the sea have become central themes of the brand’s future direction.

This long-term experience naturally led to the development of Escape to Pacific — a new international documentary expedition and marine conservation project focused on the underwater world, coral reefs, ocean ecosystems, island cultures and the urgent need to protect marine life for future generations.

Escape to Pacific

Escape to Pacific is planned as a long-term documentary series following a team of filmmakers, marine biologists, divers, sailors and local collaborators aboard an ocean-going catamaran.

The expedition will travel from Europe across the Atlantic, through the Caribbean and Central America, into the Pacific Ocean and onward toward some of the world’s most biodiverse and under-documented marine regions.

The project combines cinematic documentary storytelling, marine science, underwater filming, photography, immersive media, public outreach and education. It represents the natural evolution of Escape to Nature: from individual destination-based documentaries toward a larger, more ambitious and more urgent ocean-focused documentary mission.

In September 2021, Escape to Nature B.V. entered into a long-term cooperation with Lagoon Catamarans in France for the upcoming project. The catamaran will serve as a floating production base, research platform and home for the team during the multi-year expedition.
